• Strange Problem

From Mike Dippel@954:895/1 to All on Friday, October 09, 2026 08:50:26
I came across a strange problem that one of customers had. If they opened a browser, it
would open many instances of not only that website, but others as well. All on its own.

I was able to scan the disk for any errors and fix them. I also did a file health restore,
which ensured every file of the operating system was up-to-date, and still the problem
    continued.

I finally pulled their mouse dongle out and put mine in. Voila. It worked perfectly.

The lesson is, if it's not a software problem, it's could be a hardware issue.

Glad you figured it out. I was going to suggest that some site might have switched their home/start page to one that opens a ton of other sites. I remember that happening at work a few times, long ago, and usually to the same co-worker. ;)

I do computer repair regularly in my community. I was thinking that I should post more
stories. It seems that I have discovered a lot of strange things over the years.

My motto is: I never let a computer beat me. If it's man vs. computer. I will win.

Please do share. Some of them can turn out to be the oddest things.

Agreed! And I've found cursor extremely helpful with vibe coding! I don't have the attention span to learn to code, so this really makes it accessible for me!

Ok, sometimes it wastes credits... I tell it exactly what I think might be a problem with an upcoming build and instead of agreeing, it thinks for a
while, builds it then says it hast the problem I thought it would, wasting at least $5 in the process...

You mean a dongle to operate a mouse wirelessly? BT? or, wifi?

I thought the dongle and the mouse were usually paired to each other, so that simply swapping out the radio dongle is not enough.

And, was your customer using a newly acquired wireless mouse set? Sounds like one of the buttons was stuck on clicking the function if it opened the same site over and over.

I mat have used the wrong word when I said dongle, but it is the USB piece that
connects to the computer. I tried checking the buttons like the Shift, CTRL and Enter
keys to see if they were stuck.

Simply switching out the mouse cured it.
