Double Shadows on Jupiter
On Tuesday night, March 18, sky-watchers located in western North America and the Pacific Ocean can watch two shadows of Jupiter's Galilean moons cross the southern hemisphere of Jupiter together for about 40 minutes. At 11:44 p.m. Pacific Time (or 06:44 UT on Wednesday), the large shadow of Ganymede will
join the smaller shadow of Europa, which began its own crossing of the planet nearly two hours earlier. Europa's shadow will leave Jupiter at 12:22 a.m. PDT (or 07:22 UT) on Wednesday morning and Ganymede's shadow will depart at 2:05 a.m. PDT.
