In October 2025, my wife & I visited Europe, and we visited Paris, France for a
few days. One day when we were there, we ate lunch at a restaurant called Le
Petit Chatelet (just down the street from Notre Dame Cathedral), and we had a
veal stew, which we really enjoyed. It was very fragrant and savory. It was
listed on their menu simply as veal stew, but I looked it up online, and it seems it was veal marengo. This is a photo:

I tried making some after we got back home (though I used beef, since not many
stores here carry veal), though it didn't come out quite the same as the restaurant's version. I want to try making it again, so yesterday I went to a
local butcher shop and bought some veal, and I'll be shopping for groceries today & will buy ingredients to make it. I looked up another recipe online (using Google AI to help), and I'll see how it turns out.
My wife and I visited the Vatican, and after leaving,, we were looking for a good
restaurant within walking distance. There was a local female holding a small banner,
willing to take us to her restaurant.
Along the way, we feared this was a trap. We had heard about the problem of pickpocketing in Rome. We passed by an alley with vagrants drinking and some passed
out.
Then a short time later, we finally made it to a small restaurant. We ate the best food
that we had ever had. There is no way I could duplicated that meal. It was way too
good.
We were glad we took the risk and followed her there.
